DIY Tassel Earrings

June 16, 2017

Earlier this week I posted a pair of earrings I made in Instagram...and as promised here is the tutorial below! Super easy to make, super stylish to wear -- is there anything better!?

I'm curious to try making these with thicker thread, maybe even yarn. Let me know when you decided to make yours out of & send them my way!! Everything you need below is available at any craft store close to you.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

-4 packs of thread (either an ombre of colors, all 1 color, 2 different colors...whatever you want!)

-gold thread (I advise to NOT get metallic thread. I first tried this & the thread unravelled very, very easily. You want your earrings to hold together!)

-sewing needle

-earring hooks

STEP 1

Fold each pack of thread in half & cut them down the middle.

STEP 2

Tie a knot with a piece of string (1 piece from each separated pack!) in the middle of your newly separated thread packs.

STEP 3

More folding! Fold your small, tied thread pack in half -- you'll see it'll start to look like a tassel at this point. Wrap your gold (or whatever color you choose) thread around the top part of your newly-formed tassel & securely tie.

These tassels are from 1 pack of thread, thus why you cut them in half in Step 1!

STEP 4

Continue to do this with the rest of your thread packs until you have 8 tassels formed -- 4 for each earring.

Trim the ends of your tassels so they are even (or, in my case, somewhat even...).

Maddie was clearly intrigued by these...

STEP 5

Thread a needle (I advise a long piece of thread just in case) & double knot it at the end. This will ensure your tassels will stay together & not fall off ;)

String your newly made tassels together, making sure your needle point is going straight down the middle.

Once all tassels are on the string, secure a double knot at the top. Trim any extra strings.

STEP 6

Hook your earring hooks to the top part of the earring. I used scissors to widen the opening to hook into the thread, and then used scissors again to fasten/tighten the hook.

VOILA! You just made yourself a damn sweet pair of earrings.

Happy crafting y'all!
